One of my favorite aspects of being a musician is the study of arranging. For me, it’s like a crossword puzzle, or a game of solitaire. Each song has it’s own special little thing, and it’s always fun for me to figure out what that little thing is, and how to best balance it all for a band. I’ve had the good fortune to be able to experiment and learn how to write for a wide range of bands, and it’s great to continue to learn from experience.

Link to preview my arrangment of Ennio Morricone’s “Nuevo Cinema Paradiso”. In February of 2010, I received a grant from the Seattle Mayor’s Office of Film and Music to produce a concert featuring modern big band arrangements of Maestro Morricone’s music. One of the great musical experiences of my career. Co-Produced with Michael Owcharuk for the Seattle Jazz Composer’s Ensemble.
